Life is mega busy of late and I haven’t really had the chance to get out with my camera. So, because I really enjoy making images and always have my iPhone with me, I’ve installed a number of new apps to satisfy my creative desires! What a revelation they are; absolutely amazing and easy to use! I have been able to create some really great pictures using a mixture of different apps! I’m posting the images on instagram, where I’ve found many like-minded and inspirational artists to follow: what a great community!
Here’s what I’ve been making with the apps!
The Reflect app has the ability to create reflections in water of whatever image you choose. It’s done so well that you look at your image and really think, yes that is water!
This app has been great fun to use and has enabled me to re-use images that have already created and change them into something completely different, which is totally fun and entertaining! The image Communications was created from a montage image I made some time ago. I imported it into Circular+ and really liked the the outcome. The settings within the app give you control over how the image is distorted, which creates something completely different – it’s like a lottery of imagery that you can control: brilliant!
The Union app gives you the ability to combine components from several different images. With an endless amount of possibilities, this app has given me the freedom to create photomontages on the iPhone in a similar way to how I would do it in Photoshop.
The Mextures app lets you overlay textures on your images, building up the effect on multiple layers. I have found an unlimited amount of variations, with the ability to edit each layer. The image above has had several different textures and tonal variations applied, the possibilities are endless!
The My Rain app is one of the simplest apps I’ve used so far. You can add rain or rain in wind, it’s a simple but very effective app that can easily transform any image.
The Matter app is one of my favourite apps because you can make images and even videos incorporating 3D objects with ease. The app has many built-in objects to get you started and, if you’re feeling brave, you can import your own .obj files! I have no schooling in video or film and that’s why I like this app so much!
The Diana is another favourite; you can create double exposures, either by pressing the random button or by selecting the two images you want to merge yourself. The app has a variety of filters with the ability to adjust the blending to how much of each image you want to reveal.
The Enlight app is another of my favourite apps. It has everything you need to edit your image and lots of creative variations. The birds in the above image were added with one of the artistic brushes, which you’ll also find in my other images as I find them a very effective addition. Enlight is lots of fun, you can warp your image, add a painterly effect and much more! Again there seems to be no end of combinations when using this powerful app.
The Brushstroke app turns your photos into painterly works of art with a huge choice of canvas, paints and styles. I really like this app, as it does what I dream of being able to do on canvas – unfortunately, I was not born with the ‘I can paint gene’, so this allows me to be creative without that ability! The photo above was of my daughter on Shoreham Beach, East Sussex; it thrilled me to bits to be able to create this!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post as much as I have writing it. It’s really a great feeling to share those things that inspire you! Most of these apps I have discovered on Instagram being used by some fabulous artists. Please go there and have a look, it is truly an inspirational place!
